Meet Courtney Anderson Muller, APR

Courtney Anderson Muller has worked in public relations and marketing communications for 10 years. She is manager of finance communications at Ferguson Enterprises in Newport News. She has been involved with PRSA Hampton Roads for eight years and has served on committees and on the board for most of that time. Her current position on the board is assembly delegate and has previously served as director, secretary, president-elect, president and immediate past-president. She has also served on the APR and professional development commitees for the chapter. It’s no wonder Courtney has received Pinnacle Awards naming her Rising Star and as Member of the Year in 2016.

    1. How did you get involved in public relations? I majored in communications in college. My first job was a communications trainee at a chemical plant where I was exposed to all areas of corporate communications. It was great learning experience and laid a lot of the ground work for where I am today.
    2. If you didn't work in public relations, what would you be doing instead? An attorney – I enjoyed communication law and several of the political science courses I took in college.
    3. Why did you join PRSA? After my first employer was acquired, I quickly learned that you never want to be without a professional network. It’s much easier to find another job when you have a network to lean on. I got involved and quickly took on roles of increasing responsibility within the chapter. Along the way, I’ve made great friends and mentors.
    4. What’s your advice for those who are new to the public relations profession and/or new to PRSA? Get involved. You will only get as much from your membership as you put into it.

    Now for the important questions:

    1. What’s your favorite book, movie or song of all time? Why? You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi. Who doesn’t bust into song when that comes on the radio?!
    2. What’s one thing about you that others are surprised to discover I’m not really that uptight.
    3. What's the last picture you took with your phone? Me dressed up for 80s night.
    4. Name 5 people you'd invite to your dream dinner party. My mom, Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, Leonardo Da Vinci and Galileo. It’s always a good idea to surround yourself with people smarter than you.
