    Meet our panelists:

    Dan Cawley is an executive producer at WTKR, where he was tasked in 2016 with creating from scratch a lifestyle talk program, “Coast Live,” which airs weekdays from 10-11 a.m. For more than 26 years Dan has been winding his way through the media environment of Hampton Roads as a news, sports and documentary producer, public relations consultant, marketing director and advertising creative director. He is a graduate of the School of Communications at Penn State University. 

    Ron Crow has been editor of Inside Business magazine since May 2016. Prior to that, he was at The Virginian-Pilot for 10 years, first as an online producer and then with the paper’s tabs team where he started the hyperlocal experiment called Your Corner. When that section became an advertorial product, he became editor of the Sun in Suffolk and shortly thereafter also began editing the Currents section in Portsmouth.

    Mike Rau has worked in just about every genre and field of mass media, including the music industry, public relations, politics, radio as both a DJ and a talk show host, TV news as both an assignment editor and Web editor, and print media as a columnist for a daily newspaper. Since 2009, Rau has channeled his professional energy into providing consulting services in various aspects of mass communications to a broad range of clients.

    Janet Roach is co-anchor of “13News Now” on WVEC at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. She is a four-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and a two-time recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award. Janet is a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in public policy analysis. Before coming to Hampton Roads, Janet worked for ABC affiliate WMAR-TV in Baltimore, Maryland; WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C.; and WITI-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

    Tom Robotham is a veteran journalist, first as an education reporter and music columnist for The Staten Island Advance, then as an editor for Esquire Press, the book imprint of Esquire Magazine. From 1998-2008, he was editor-in-chief of Port Folio Weekly in Norfolk. Since then, he has divided his time between freelance writing and teaching American Studies at Old Dominion University. 


    Meet our moderator:


    David Brandt is director of communications at ECPI University in Virginia Beach.  He has a B.A. in political science from Westminster College and M.A. in journalism from Regent University. A former television reporter at WVEC TV, he began his career in public relations after spending a decade in journalism. Active in community service, David is a Rotarian and former board member of the Virginia Zoo, Norfolk Sister City Association and PRSA Hampton Roads.
