    Deborah Morton, a lawyer whose career has focused on corporate public relations and media, will help us avoid legal pitfalls as we share information and stories about people – particularly using digital and new media. She will bring us real-world examples and best practices we can put to use in our daily work.

    About Our Speaker

    Deborah Morton is a lawyer and public relations professional. She was a public relations executive with Johnson Publishing Company, the world’s largest wholly owned African-American publisher. She began her career as a news assistant at WTHR-TV 13 in Indianapolis, was assignment editor at NBC/WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., coordinated media relations for B.E.T. and C.S.P.A.N., and helped launch The Learning Channel.

    She earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington in telecommunications, theater and Afro-American studies, and a master’s degree in communication management from Northwestern University. She graduated from Indiana University McKinney School of Law with an emphasis in intellectual property rights of publicity, information and data privacy management in new media. She also completed the Remnin University Chinese IP Law program in Beijing.

    Deborah, who recently moved to Hampton Roads, was a National Institute of Health Distinguished Lecturer while providing doctoral communication and media training for scientific and technical students at Purdue University
