Banish Burnout, Reclaim Your Creative Spark

“In order to be burned out, one must first be alight.”

In 2017, Forbes magazine ranked public relations executive as the eighth most stressful career. The top 10 included enlisted military personnel, firefighter, airline pilot, police officer, journalist and event planner.

Those of you drawn to public relations are creative, whip smart, and eager to nurture positive relationships - in often challenging circumstances. You might also be driven to excel and suffer from perfectionism. Such professional stressors put you at risk of burnout, with serious consequences to your physical health and psychological well-being.

In this short session, you will learn to recognize the signs of burnout and simple ways to combat it. Recapture confidence in your ability to create the work and life that you love using your own inner resources and a tried and tested mindfulness tool.

    You'll learn to:

    1. Distinguish between stress and burnout.
    2. Identify three personal risk factors that contribute to burnout.
    3. Name three personal strategies to address and prevent professional burnout.

Our meeting will include a tour of the Brock Environmental Center, one of the greenest buildings in the world. It is home to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Lynnhaven River Now.

Want a sneak peek? Check out Melissa's recent article in Inside Business.

An assortment of salads and sandwiches will be provided.

Parking: Due to the Brock Center’s environmental focus, parking is on nearby Marlin Bay Drive. Bundle up, wear comfortable shoes and enjoy a peaceful, five-minute walk along the center’s nature path that will put you in a great frame of mind for our program. Guests with mobility issues can be dropped off at the building or park in designated handicapped spaces.
