Let’s Meet New PRSAHR Member, Lesle Palmeri

Lesle Palmeri’s career in public relations began in 1980, when she started organizing press conferences and advanced publicity for Martina Navratilova, who was participating in Virginia Slims tennis at the time. Lesle joined PRSA while living on the west coast because, she says, “it is critical to network with colleagues and continue to grow in any profession.” Owner of Walker & Company Marketing Communication, Lesle’s main goal is to provide a well-rounded approach to the needs of her clients. What would she be doing, if not working in public relations?  Like many other members of PRSA, she can’t imagine not working in some form of marketing or communications field.

Now let’s really get to know Lesle:

    1. If you could only eat at one restaurant for the rest of your life, where would you go & why?

I love to cook and enjoy new recipes. If I could ONLY eat at one place, it would be home. Otherwise, I love experimenting with new places to dine and especially enjoy a venue with either a view of the water or live music….BOTH is great. Of course, the food needs to be interesting and reasonably priced. I have recently enjoyed The Green Onion on Colley Avenue. Good food, nice atmosphere, convenient location.

    2. What’s your favorite book of all time?

I have read a particular book three times and will probably read it a fourth time. It is “A Nervous Splendor,” by Frederick Morton. It chronicles just two years, 1888-1889, in the lives of people living in this spectacular city on the Danube. It contains incredible twists and surprises and gives great insight into the contrasts of the time.

    3. What’s one thing about you that others are surprised to discover?

That I drove a research vehicle for five years. When I first went in for the required medical certification, the doctor looked me up and down and said, “You don’t look like a trucker.” “Thank you,” I replied. I am always game to learn new things and pursue new opportunities.

    4. What's the last picture you took with your phone?

A picture of a gaggle of geese off the shore of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

    5. Name 5 people you'd invite to your dream dinner party.

That would be family members. A good majority of my family have passed, many quite a few years ago, starting in my teens. I would love to gather them all at a table and learn more from them, as well as have the opportunity to share what I have learned and experienced with them. My mother was a wonderful cook. I would like to share my love of cooking with her. My father was an entrepreneur and always taking on new challenges. I would like to share my career path with him. My great aunt was a very generous person and I think she would be pleased with my involvement with the community and willingness to be a mentor. And, I never met either of my grandfathers, so a conversation with them would be very rewarding.

Be sure to say hi next time you see Lesle at a PRSA Hampton Roads event!
